The pandemic has revealed the importance of leveraging data to manage a very uncertain time. That’s according to Burning Glass Technologies CEO Matt Sigelman.

WorkingNation interviewed Sigelman for #WorkingNationOverheard as a media partner with ASU+GSV’s Virtual Summit 2020, held from September 29 through October 1+October 8. You can watch all of the interviews on our YouTube channel.

“Think about it from the perspective of an institution of higher education,” says Sigelman.

“We’ve all seen, or mostly seen, significant declines in enrollment, significant financial pressures, and at the same time, this is the moment where they can step beyond the way they’ve been doing things and serve a much bigger community of learners.”

As enrollment declines for higher education institutions and financial pressures increase, there’s an opportunity to do something different, and serve a new community of learners.

“We’ve certainly seen an intense demand for the numbers to be able to guide key decisions,” says Sigelman. “There are companies trying to figure out how can they make sure that their workforce stays relevant. How do they make use of the talents that are no longer relevant and reposition them for the kind of jobs that they’re going to need in the future?”
