“We’re at the dawn of a transformational time period.”

WorkingNation interviewed the Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s president and CEO Stephen Moret for our #WorkingNationOverheard series, in partnership with the ASU+GSV Virtual Summit 2020, held from September 29 through October 1+October 8.

Moret says the pandemic has been difficult for workers, and millions of Americans, but just getting full employment isn’t the only challenge.

“Many people are not only not going to be able to go back to their previous job, many of them are not going to be able to go back to their previous occupation,” says Moret.

To deal with the new landscape, everyone is going to have to participate in navigating it – educators, employers, and government.

“It won’t be most people, but it’ll be a large minority, says Moret. “We need to help them understand the options that are available to them, to be able to afford to undertake the reskilling and retooling or educational opportunities to get there, and then to help find those opportunities.”
