SXSW EDU Work in Progress

Expanding career pathways for people with disabilities

A conversation with Kathy Martinez, Expedia Group; Hiren Shukla, EY; Claudia Gordon, T-Mobile; and Jane Oates, WorkingNation
-

In this Work in Progress episode, we bring you our final WorkingNation panel from the SXSW EDU 2023 conference last month in Austin.

Companies increasingly understand the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, in the workplace. Now, the principle of DEI has expanded to DEIA, including accessibility for people with disabilities. That’s important because people with physical or neurological disabilities suffer unemployment and underemployment at higher rates than the overall working population.

For the past few years, WorkingNation has spent a lot of time discussing expanding access to education and careers for people with disabilities. That was the subject of a discussion lead by our president Jane Oates.

Jane was joined by an amazing group of panelists – Kathy Martinez of Expedia GroupClaudia Gordon of T-Mobile, and Hiren Shukla of EY. They discussed strategies for hiring and retaining and promoting people with disabilities.  Here’s that conversation.

This is that conversation. You can listen here or wherever you get your podcasts.
