Green Jobs Now

Iowa’s green economy currently consists of 13,118 workers, but there are just under 600,000 others in Iowa who could receive a significant salary boost for having green skills and competencies on their resume. As the clean energy industry expands beyond wind and ethanol, green jobs are growing to include careers dealing directly with soil, wetlands, watersheds, and native pollinators – all with minimal retraining required.

As the country’s leading producer of corn, centuries of continuous agriculture have depleted Iowa’s soil of organic matter and released tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, but a few simple steps could turn it all around and turn the state into the Fort Knox of carbon storage.
