Gregorio (Greg) Flores on assessing beyond the resume

“The expectations that employees have now with the relationship with the employer is much more than showing up at work, doing your time, finishing the job, and moving on,” says Gregorio (Greg) Flores, founder and owner, Sculpted Leaders, LLC – which does executive coaching, helping coalesce teams.

WorkingNation sat down with Flores at SHRM 2022 Annual Conference & Expo in New Orleans.

“What you’re seeing is a much more concerted effort and frankly, demand by employees that their needs be filled at work as much as they’re fulfilling their own needs offsite at home and other endeavors that they might be involved in,” says Flores.

“Those are tough messages for CEOs, board members, and presidents that I work with who are accustomed to giving orders or having assignments or having a job description that says, ‘Do as your job says you should be doing and just get the work done.’”

Hiring needs to move beyond reading the resume, according to Flores. “Flexibility is really around not trying to fit people into these square pegs or these round pegs. It really is about allowing the individual to express where they can add value in the job that they’ve taken.”
