“I think now more than ever, we need to be rethinking the pathways between education and work,” says Maria Flynn, president and CEO of Jobs for the Future – JFF.

WorkingNation sat down with Flynn at SXSW EDU in Austin.

She notes, “One thing that we are missing in this country is a truly equitable and universal career navigation system.”

“We still have a bit of a scattershot approach. Ideally, take someone who is interested in changing careers and really look to see where we can use artificial intelligence to help really create personalized solutions and really personalized pathways for folks,” adds Flynn.

Flynn says JFF will be releasing research about employers and hiring. “The new research looks at employer sentiment around different approaches for hiring that go beyond using the four-year degree as a signal. We’re seeing a lot of willingness on the part of employers to rethink their hiring requirements.”
