FedEx Ground will hire 700 package handlers at its stations in Nashville, the company announced Monday.

The announcement is a response to growing demand for e-commerce services, according to a news release. New hires will load and unload packages, and the positions may become full-time job opportunities as demand rises.

Nearly 3,000 employees currently work at FedEx Ground facilities in Nashville, Lebanon, Murfreesboro and Mount Juliet, according to a company spokesperson. In the last fiscal quarter, FedEx Ground transported more than 13 million packages per day, up from 12 million in the previous fiscal quarter.

FedEx Ground announced open positions for 450 workers at its new 450,000-square-foot sorting regional sorting facility in Wilson County in October of last year. That facility is equipped to handle 12,000 packages per hour.

FedEx Ground processes an average of package volume of more than 12 million each day with the help of more than 225,000 employees and more than 85,000 vehicles, according to its website.

A job posting on the company's website states part-time employees typically work a two- to four-hour shift each day, while full-time employees typically work two shifts per day "of varying lengths."

Day, night and weekend shifts are available. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and the positions have no minimum education requirement. Benefits are available after a minimum period of employment.
