PODCAST: Art Bilger on Workforce Today

-

What are the biggest threats and opportunities to CT and the US labor market in the face of a looming employment crisis?

Workforce Alliance President and CEO Bill Villano talked with our Founder and CEO Art Bilger about what he thinks will transform the economy and have the biggest impact on the workforce.

Listen to their conversation below:

In the podcast, one of the challenges Art mentions is how our country is facing a caregiver crisis. Americans are living longer than ever before. By 2050, the population of adults over the age of 65 is expected to almost double, growing from 47.8 million to 88 million. By 2024, home care occupations are projected to add more jobs than any other single occupation and is among the top 10 fastest-growing occupations.

During the podcast Art speaks highly of the New York-based non-profit Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute (PHI)– an organization that is helping come up with the solutions to the caregiver crisis.  PHI is working to improve the lives of people who need home or residential care by improving the lives of the workers who provide that care.

One of the innovative training programs PHI piloted in 2015, with funding from the New York State Department of Health, was the Care Connections Project (CCP). WorkingNation spent some time at PHI learning about the CCP. Read our story about the amazing transformation taking place between workers and patients or watch it below:
