Scott Hoesman on DEIA – diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility

Industry leaders discuss business disability inclusion at the 2022 Disability:IN Conference

It’s important to move from awareness-only activities to looking at systems, the processes, and practices, according to Scott Hoesman, founder and CEO, inQUEST Consulting – a diversity, equity, and inclusion training and consulting firm.

WorkingNation sat down with Hoesman at 2022 Disability:IN Conference in Dallas.

He says, “We do something at inQUEST where we look at an organization’s policies, what they have written or documented then what their practices are. What they actually do with those policies and the procedures that support them. Are they clear with folks?”

“We look at both the written documentation, but then how it is playing out in the organization, in that culture for real. That can provide some really compelling and insightful information to know how to address some access, inclusion, equity, and diversity topics.”

Hoesman notes he has seen great progress since beginning work around DEIA. “There’s absolutely no comparison to where we are today versus when I think about starting in this field 25 years ago.”

“Where we are today is organizations really looking to be proactive, leading edge, deriving social change, really leaning into ESG responsibility efforts, CSR efforts in ways that, quite frankly, I would have only been able to dream about 25 years ago.”
