Employers expanding their use of AI is already making its mark on the workforce, with midcareer and older workers, and workers in some entry-level jobs being impacted the most, according to Mona Mourshed, founding global CEO of Generation.
“We’re seeing that hiring managers are greatly preferring younger candidates to midcareer candidates for any role that involves AI in any way,” she says.
“Hiring managers are three times more likely to prefer a younger candidate to an older candidate for that role. So, it’s actually accentuating age biases.”
Mourshed adds that in all fields, including tech jobs such as software developer, there’s been a 20-plus percent drop in entry-level vacancies compared to 18 to 24 months ago.
She offers these strategies for 2025 to make certain everyone has the opportunity to thrive in an economy that is becoming more AI-driven.
In the workplace, she says it’s important “to support those employees who are getting a lot of use out of AI today to be able to spread that knowledge, to share it with their work colleagues so that everyone can benefit, and it becomes much more inclusive.”
For those workers who need help learning about AI in the workplace, Mourshed says, “Across all our professions, we are now offering an AI skills module. For anyone who is a working adult, these are things you should know to make the most of a wide array of AI tools.”

Prior to her position at Corporate Anthropology Advisors, Ardi served as a Partner/Managing Director at the private equity firms CCMP Capital and JPMorgan Partners. She was a partner at Flatiron Partners, a venture capital firm working with early state companies where she pioneered the human capital role within an investment portfolio.
