David Shapiro is the CEO of MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership. The mission of the organization is “to fuel the quantity and quality of mentoring relationships for America’s young people and to close the mentoring gap.” MENTOR’s national database of youth mentoring programs connects volunteers to opportunities in their own communities.

Shapiro states, ““I think the world is right for innovation, disruption and change.” He says employers have the opportunity to look for hires using a new lens. “If you want to get the greatest talent, you should be honoring life experience and perspective.”

Shapiro adds, “If someone worked seven hourly jobs and raised four children that tells me something about their resilience and work ethic more than maybe going to Harvard Business School might ever tell me.”

WorkingNation interviewed Shapiro for #WorkingNationOverheard as a media partner with the JFF Horizons 2020 conference. You can watch all the interviews on our YouTube channel.
