Doug McCullough on advocating for an inclusive workplace

Industry leaders discuss business disability inclusion at the 2023 Disability:IN Conference

Doug McCullough, the global supply chain reliability manager for Johnson & Johnson, calls himself an “accidental activist.” McCullough – who has spinal muscular atrophy – became active with an employee resource group for people with disabilities and began to learn more about the community.

WorkingNation sat down with McCullough at the 2023 Disability:IN Conference in Orlando.

He notes his company has a culture of inclusion but adds people with disabilities are often not top-of-mind. “People just don’t think about it. They don’t see a lot of people with disabilities in the workplace, so they’re not thinking about it.”

“As I started learning more about the disability community and the workplace, the lack of inclusion, high unemployment rates, et cetera, I really became passionate about the need to do better in this area,” says McCullough. “Making sure that people were truly included in the workplace, whether it’s supply chain, my function or other functions, whatever their interest is.”
