We all know the saying, “money can’t buy happiness.” So, by extension, a job that pays well won’t necessarily make you happy.

What kind of work does fill a person with pleasure?

A special report from Bloomberg finds firefighters have the highest level of job satisfaction, even though their median annual income is just under $50,000.

And it’s that pay that is leaving the public safety industry with a dwindling pool of applicants as it struggles to compete with safer and better-paying industries. This is the same issue we highlighted — with a solution — in our Do Something Awesome mini-documentary, Changing Lives, Saving Lives.

It features a state-of-the-art training program for first responders in Northeast Ohio that is expanding its mission through a public-private partnership with the Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) Public Safety Training Institute and KeyBank.
