Tearing the paper ceiling can create greater opportunity for STARs, people Skilled Through Alternative Routes. A new campaign from Opportunity@Work and the Ad Council notes STARs are viable job candidates and employers should set aside the college degree requirement for some jobs.

Steve Lee, Executive Director of SkillUp Coalition says employers have to understand that STARs have the skillsets to fill open jobs. “If they could just open up their mindsets to think about STARs in a way they honestly haven’t done in the past, that would go quite a bit of ways to hiring STARs across the country.”

He continues, “What you get from STARs is dedicated workers. You get a diverse workforce. You get skilled workers. You get workers who are going to do a great job, stick around, and retain within your company. And that’s what most companies want.”
