There need to be frameworks addressing ethical and equity questions around the use of AI in education, says Isabelle Hau, executive director of the Stanford Accelerator for Learning.
Hau joined WorkingNation’s editor-in-chief Ramona Schindelheim for WorkingNation Overheard at SXSW EDU 2024 in Austin.
When it comes to the use of AI, Hau says, “Education stood out by far as the early adopter. It’s not actually too surprising in the sense that educators are innovators. They want to do the best for their learners, for their classrooms, but definitely the data show that education is one of the power users of AI right now.”
Hau says, “I am actually really excited about the use of AI, myself. I see a lot of potential for supporting educators – doing a lot of tasks that take a lot of time and can be a lot more efficiently run.
“A second-use case, which is very exciting, is with learners, themselves. How to leverage this amazing technology to turn students [into] creators and have them a lot more in charge of their own learning.”
