Employers should “do right” by their employees because it helps with retention and results in a more fulfilled workforce,, says Tyra Mariani, president, Schultz Family Foundation.

WorkingNation sat down with Mariani at JFF Horizons in New Orleans.

“When you combine that context, you really start to see the shift in demand or people really empowered to make better choices about where they go to work. Then those companies who are incented or want to take a different approach to their business model might start rethinking it because it’s just too costly to them.”

Mariani adds there’s an opportunity to make national service a pathway to jobs. “There are organizations out there who are using it as a way to fill needed jobs in government, for example, to help those who were formerly incarcerated get opportunity.”

“I think if we can really bolster it to think about grabbing our young adults, in particular, where they are and giving them real pathways into opportunities and jobs that are needed, then I think we have a win-win all around.”
