Valuing the skills learned on the job

A conversation with Byron Auguste, co-founder, Opportunity@Work.

Of the 63 million essential jobs nationally 42 million are filled by STARs, workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes. These are generally people with high school diplomas who’ve been mastering new skills in the jobs they occupy and through alternatives to higher education.

Byron Auguste is the co-founder of Opportunity@Work, a nonprofit whose mission is to rewire the labor market to make certain these STARs are not overlooked in the workforce.

Auguste joins editor-in-chief Ramona Schindelheim in this Work in Progress podcast for new digital magazine Inquire Within.
